Soft Spile is a cellar book for cask ale, built to run entirely on your own device. This policy explains, in plain terms, what the app does and does not do with your information.
The short version
Soft Spile does not collect, transmit, sell or share any personal data. It has no account system, no analytics, no advertising and no server of its own. Everything you enter — your stillage, your casks, your breweries, your photos and your readings — stays on your iPhone or iPad, inside the app's own storage.
What the app stores, and where
All cellar records are saved locally in the app's Documents folder as plain files on your device:
- Cask, brewery and beer records, stage timestamps, notes, temperature readings and line-clean history — saved as a JSON file inside the app's own sandboxed storage.
- Pump-clip photographs you take or choose — saved as image files inside the app's own sandboxed storage, never in your general Photos library unless you choose to save them there yourself.
- Your settings (temperature band, stillage size, number of handpumps, sound and haptics preferences) — saved with the standard iOS user-defaults mechanism, on-device only.
None of this leaves your device. Soft Spile makes no network requests, has no backend and talks to no server — there is nothing to be sent anywhere. Deleting the app deletes this data with it, and the in-app "Empty cellar" and "Restore sample cellar" options in Settings give you direct control over it at any time.
Camera and photo library
Soft Spile asks for camera access only when you choose to photograph a pump clip for a cask, and for photo-library access only when you choose to pick an existing photo instead. Both permissions are requested at the moment you use that feature, never in advance and never for any other purpose. Photos you attach are stored only inside the app's own storage on your device and are never uploaded.
Notifications
If you turn on reminders in Settings or from the reminder bell, Soft Spile asks permission to send local notifications so it can remind you about a due stage — a vent check, a spile swap, a line clean. These notifications are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device; no notification service or third party is involved, and no data about you leaves your phone to make this work.

Soft Spile is a professional tool for licensed cellar staff and is not directed at children. Because the app collects no data of any kind, there is nothing to differentiate for younger users.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes — for example if a future version of the app adds a feature that touches data differently — this page will be updated and the "last updated" date above will change accordingly.
